Peaslee Tech announced a partnership with housing nonprofit Tenants to Homeowners Friday that will have students building houses inside the technical school’s Lawrence facility.

In a news release, the technical school said the program was slated to start at the end of February. Students will be able to work on the project regardless of weather conditions and daylight hours, since the houses will be built inside and then moved onsite.

The release says that roughly 70 Peaslee students will be involved in the program, from the school’s carpentry, HVAC, plumbing and electrician programs.

Tenants to Homeowners is a local nonprofit that has helped more than 400 families become homeowners since 1992, according to the United Way of Kaw Valley. The nonprofit also provides affordable rentals and does homebuyer education workshops and presentations to help families be successful homeowners.
