Another Douglas County building, the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, has dropped its mask requirement starting this week.
An administrative order making the change official was signed Monday morning, Chief Judge James R. McCabria told the Journal-World via email. Most other county buildings dropped their mask requirements last week. With Monday’s change at the Judicial Center, only the Douglas County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center have continued mask requirements due to federal regulations.
At the Judicial Center, there won’t be any universal requirement to wear a mask or submit to a health screening to enter the building, but McCabria said visitors should still bring a mask in a case a judge requires it for any particular hearing.
McCabria also stressed that, though not a requirement in the order, it’s his hope that people are respectful if interacting with someone who requests they wear a mask.
The new administrative order also states that Douglas County will continue to make use of remote court proceedings, making a reasonable effort to accommodate those who prefer to participate by those means.
