City crews and contracted services will remove snow from downtown Lawrence between midnight and 7 a.m. Saturday, the city said in a news release Friday.
The Lawrence area received about 8 inches of snow during Thursday’s snowstorm. Though downtown streets were plowed Thursday, city spokesperson Porter Arneill said crews would be removing snow that was still in the driving lanes and some of the snow that had been pushed to the turn lanes.
To ensure the safety of the snow and ice removal operations, staff will establish temporary rolling street closures downtown during the removal.
Crews will begin in the 1100 block of Massachusetts Street and continue north toward Sixth Street. Temporary street closures will occur block by block.
After Massachusetts Street, crews will work to clear Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, 10th and 11th streets, from Kentucky Street to New Hampshire Street, as well as Vermont and New Hampshire streets, from Sixth Street to 11th Street, as time allows. Crews may not be able to clear all streets in the given time period.
