Applications are now open for the City of Lawrence’s next round of Affordable Housing Trust Fund projects, the city announced this week.
The trust fund is supported by the local affordable housing sales tax, and each year the Affordable Housing Advisory Board reviews applications and makes its recommendations to the City Commission on which projects to fund. Last year, nine projects were selected to receive a total of $1.2 million in trust fund awards.
A release from the City of Lawrence on Thursday said applications could be for a variety of projects: building new affordable rental units; land acquisition, rehabilitation or construction of new units for affordable home ownership; vouchers and other emergency rental assistance; programs that help people repair their homes or make accessibility improvements; and community education programs.
The release encouraged applicants to contact Affordable Housing Administrator Lea Roselyn at lroselyn@lawrenceks.gov to review their projects before submitting the application. Applicants can be 501(c)3 nonprofits, corporations, civic groups or local government departments; individuals aren’t eligible to apply for projects for their own homes, but may contact Roselyn about other home rehabilitation programs, according to the city’s website.
Applicants have until 5 p.m. Sept. 4 to submit their applications. The Affordable Housing Advisory Board will consider the projects later in the fall, and applicants will be notified of the final funding decisions in December. More information on how to apply can be found at lawrenceks.gov/pds/affordable-housing/trust-fund.
