Tyrone Gipson Jr. appears with his defense attorney, Hatem Chahine, Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, in Douglas County District Court.

A man initially charged in Douglas County District Court with rape of a 9-year-old pleaded no contest Tuesday to two counts of aggravated assault.

Tyrone Gipson Jr., 42, was initially charged on Jan. 3 with rape and aggravated criminal sodomy of a victim under 14 years old for incidents on Nov. 24, 2024.

According to allegations in a sworn affidavit, which have not been proved in court, the child’s mother contacted police after the child told her of inappropriate nudity and behavior by Gipson, as the Journal-World reported. When an investigator spoke to the child, the girl described multiple incidents of being sexually abused by Gipson, including rape. Investigators later found explicit videos of the child and more than 175 internet searches related to pornography of grown men abusing children, according to the affidavit.

Gipson will be sentenced on Oct. 28. Because of the lower severity level of the crimes in his plea deal, the court converted his bond to a $25,000 own recognizance bond.
