Ahead of the annual Art in the Park show in September, you can get a sneak peek at some of the participating artists’ works at downtown Lawrence’s Phoenix Gallery.

The gallery at 825 Massachusetts St., will be hosting an Art in the Park Preview Show in its downstairs space, the Phoenix Underground, featuring the works of some of the artists who will participate in Art in the Park. The preview show will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday as part of the Final Friday art walk, and then the art will be displayed at the gallery through Sept. 12.

Art in the Park itself is Sept. 13 and 14 in South Park.

Rochelle Marsh, director of the Phoenix Gallery, said about 20 to 30 of the artists who will be at Art in the Park will put some of their work on display for the preview show.

“It’s a nice way to build up excitement for the big event,” Marsh said.

Most of the artists are from Lawrence, Marsh said, and the works will be in a variety of media, from paintings to ceramics to jewelry. There are some artists featured who are just “getting their feet wet” in displaying their art, she said, and others who are longtime professionals.

The preview show’s opening night on Friday will also feature live music by Alonzo Beardshear.
