As part of the ongoing process of updating the rules for where and how Lawrence should grow, the city is offering a new take-home tool for community members to offer their feedback.

On Thursday, the city announced that it will now offer a “Meeting in a Box” tool as part of the community engagement process for the Land Development Code. The city has been in the process since last August of updating that code, which dictates city growth and changes that could affect the aesthetics and function of existing neighborhoods and commercial areas. Most recently, the steering committee working on those new rules has completed the process of gathering public feedback on the first section of the new rules, with two more draft sections to come later this year.

The “Meeting in a Box” is a self-paced workshop that community members can complete either by themselves or with a group of their choosing, from community organizations to neighborhood groups. That input will help guide where and how Lawrence grows, the city said in a release.

Interested community members can pick up hard copies of the packets from the city’s Planning and Development Department at City Hall Riverfront, 1 Riverfront Plaza, Ste. 320. An online version is also available on the project’s website. The tool will be available through Friday, Sept. 15.
