The Lawrence school district has announced the selection of Kiley Luckett as the district’s new mental health coordinator.

Luckett has served as the counselor at Schwegler Elementary School since 2014, and her role in her new position will begin immediately pending school board approval, according to a district news release. Cynthia Johnson, executive director of inclusion, engagement, and belonging for the district, announced the selection, saying in the news release that her team will continue its work to support students.

“I am excited to work with Kiley Luckett as we continue to provide resources to students, staff, and our school communities to support mental health and social emotional learning in Lawrence Public Schools,” Johnson said. “Our Inclusion, Engagement, and Belonging Team will support our schools in meeting students where they are and assisting them in reaching their fullest potential.”

Luckett joined the school district and Schwegler school in 2014. Her prior experience includes serving as a director and counselor for the Duke Talent Identification Program in Durham, North Carolina, and as a family therapist for St. Francis Community Services in Topeka. Luckett earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at the University of Kansas.

“It has been an absolute joy to be the counselor at Schwegler for the past nine years,” Luckett said in the release. “I am thankful for the many lessons I have learned. I will miss the daily interactions with students, staff, and families. I am thrilled to be able to increase my impact and serve the entire district.”

Luckett will succeed Jose Cornejo, who has transferred to a social work position at East Heights.
