Police seek public’s help in identifying gunman caught on video robbing Lawrence liquor store, tripping as he flees
Police hope surveillance footage of a gunman who robbed a Lawrence liquor store — and took a spill as he ran off — will help identify the suspect.
The robbery was reported about 10:15 p.m. Friday at the Wine Cellar, 2100 W. 25th St., suite A, Officer Drew Fennelly of the Lawrence Police Department said, in an email response to an inquiry from the Journal-World. Fennelly said employees reported that the suspect displayed a handgun, demanded money and escaped with an undisclosed amount.
Lawrence police shared surveillance video of the suspect on social media this week.
Video footage first shows him running toward the store on the sidewalk, then waving a gun at an employee inside and grabbing handfuls of cash out of the register. Another shot shows the man running from the store, falling and rolling on the sidewalk, then getting up again and running off westbound.
Fennelly said Wednesday that the suspect had yet to be identified. He is described as a black male approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with an athletic build and wearing all black. In the video, he appears to be carrying a messenger-style bag slung across his body.
Watch this robber carefully. Do you recognize the mannerisms, or a clothing item? When this person eats it on the pavement (wait for it), does that look familiar? Help us identify this person. Contact Detective Cottengim with info (785)830-7451. pic.twitter.com/cRm1hS6dyg
