Boathouse proposed for Burcham Park

Bottom line

City commissioners will consider a special-use permit for a proposed boathouse at Burcham Park. The boathouse would be built and used by the Kansas University Rowing team.

Background

The building would be two-stories and would be on a footprint of about 8,200 square feet. Currently, the KU rowing team has a small fenced-in area at the park to store its boats. The building would provide indoor storage on the ground floor, and locker room and clubhouse space on the upper floor. The building would require special construction techniques to allow it to withstand flooding.
