Holiday Happenings: Bizarre Bazaar offers all things handcrafted

A recent Bizarre Bazaar social media post touts that the pictured handmade item, among designs to be for sale at the event, is something “you won’t come across in stores.”
That’s a signature of this annual only-in-Lawrence holiday shopping event — and antithesis to Black Friday at the big box stores. Bizarre Bazaar is scheduled for, as always, the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving inside the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 23 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 24. Admission is free.
Local and regional crafters and artists will fill all three floors of the arts center with their booths, selling all things handmade.
“We will have 101 artists at this year’s show,” said Elenor Buffington, one of three coordinators for this year’s show. “Live music and performances, combined with snacks for sale, create a nice shopping environment.”
Earrings made with sterling flatware and pieces of china dishes (the aforementioned handmade item, incidentally). Fabric “protest” pins embroidered with phrases such as “disobey.” Colorful paintings on pieces of wood. Mosaic portraits in enamel frames. Those represent but a sliver of the assortment of items that will be for sale, including many at low price points.
The roughly 30-year-old tradition is billed by organizers as “the one show you never want to miss!”
