Douglas County reports 32 new cases of COVID-19 in 2 days, but active case count keeps dropping

Douglas County added 32 new COVID-19 cases from Monday to Wednesday, and the number of active cases in the community dropped by about 50 in that time, according to the latest statistics from Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health.

The county now has 317 active cases of COVID-19, down from 375 on Monday. Since March of 2020, the county has seen a total of 25,233 cases.

Four inpatients were hospitalized with COVID at LMH Health as of Wednesday, up from two on Monday.

Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health continues to encourage community members to follow updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance and also urges them to get vaccinated. The health department administers vaccinations and booster doses at the clinic on the first floor of the Community Health Building, 200 Maine St., for adults and eligible children.

The health department also offers information about where to go to get tested for COVID in Douglas County on its website.

Additionally, KDHE has a COVID testing site at the former Payless Shoe location at 1540 Wakarusa Drive. Hours of operation through the end of this week have been adjusted due to expected inclement weather; the site will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
