The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is opening new indoor COVID-19 testing locations to limit weather-related site closures, including a new site in Lawrence.

KDHE is replacing outdoor testing sites in Topeka, Manhattan and Lawrence, according to a news release. Additionally, KDHE will open new mass testing sites in Garden City and Emporia.

The current outdoor testing site in Lawrence, located in the parking lot of Walmart, 3300 Iowa St., will close on Wednesday. That same day, KDHE will open an indoor testing site at the former Payless at 1540 Wakarusa Drive. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Additionally, KDHE notes that at-home COVID-19 rapid tests are available for free at covidtests.gov/ or by calling 1-800-232-0233. All households are eligible to order four free at-home tests through the federal government, which will typically ship within 7-12 days
