Douglas County adds more than 800 COVID cases over 2 days; 1 more death also reported

Douglas County added more than 800 new cases of COVID-19 over the past two days and also reported another COVID-19 death, according to the latest statistics from Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health.

There have been 846 new COVID-19 cases reported to Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health since Wednesday, according to the latest data released Friday afternoon. That brings the county’s cumulative case count since the start of the pandemic to 21,646, with 6,318 active cases as of 1 p.m. Friday. The county’s latest death, reported Friday, was a man in the 84-and-over age category, and it brings the county’s total COVID-19 death count to 119.

Amid the ongoing surge, the county’s 14-day moving average daily case count has stayed high. It currently sits at 333.79 — a slight decrease from Wednesday’s figure of 339.57. LMH Health’s count of COVID-19 inpatients, however, has increased in the past two days. On Wednesday, the hospital had 24 COVID-19 inpatients; on Friday, it had 28.

Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health continues to encourage community members to follow updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, and also urges them to get vaccinated. The health department administers vaccinations and booster doses for eligible children and adults at the clinic on the first floor of the Community Health Building.
