Dr. Jennifer Schrimsher, deputy county health officer and infectious disease physician at LMH Health, speaks to the Douglas County Commission as part of its meeting Jan. 12, 2022.
The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Board will consider making Dr. Jennifer Schrimsher the county’s new health officer at a meeting this evening.
Schrimsher has served as the county’s deputy health officer for about a year. If appointed, she would replace outgoing health officer Dr. Thomas Marcellino, whose impending resignation was announced at last month’s board meeting.
Marcellino leaves the position after 10 years at the helm, most recently helping to guide the county through the COVID-19 pandemic by formulating public health orders. He won’t be leaving the health department entirely, though; the board will also consider a contract that moves him into a medical consultant role.
The board meets at 5 p.m. at the Community Health Building, 200 Maine St., in the Seele Conference Room on the building’s second floor. Meetings are also broadcast via Zoom. For more meeting information, visit the health department website: ldchealth.org/155/Health-Board.
