Dillons, Kwik Shop among new projects up for approval

This and that from the Lawrence development scene. ¢ Expect to see some construction work at the Kwik Shop store at the corner of 19th and Massachusetts streets. The company plans to give its existing store a major overhaul and new look, according to a site plan filed with the city's planning department. The company also plans to convert much of a vacant grass lot to the east of the store into additional parking. ¢ Kwik Shop's corporate cousin - Dillons - also plans to get out the hammer and saw at its store at 3000 W. Sixth Street. According to a site plan, the company wants to add a drive-through pharmacy lane to the store. The drive-through would be near the southeast corner of the building. ¢ Keep an eye on the intersection of Peterson Road and Monterey Way. A recent application for preliminary plat for 3901 Peterson Road proposed a large multi-family development that targeted retirees. But now, planners say the developers have requested a deferral of the plat, and it is uncertain when the project may move forward. ¢ People who live near Eldridge Lane and Overland Drive may be getting some new neighbors. A request to rezone and plat about 10 acres at 4145 Seele Way has been received by city planners. The request seeks to rezone the property from traditional single-family lots to a mix of duplex and small-lot single family development. Specifically, the rezoning would allow for 44 duplex living units and 19 single-family homes. Previously, the land had been zoned to allow for 41 single family homes.

Is that really GrandDaddy's there? The Mrs and I saw there was a new BBQ place, but didn't know which. If it's GrandDaddy's, I'll hit my Winter weight in no time! What about Midwest Fish Fry? Anybody know where they moved to, or did they just close up shop?

Check again KSChick1 - Grandaddy got sick of having to clean up used condoms every morning when he arrived at work and moved about a month ago.

Second best bbq place in town behind Biemers."There is no BBQ in the strip mall at 19th and Haskell. You are thinking of north Lawrence where you can get a lap dance while eating your ribs from GD's bbq.

"thebcman (Anonymous) says: what about the big lot on the west side of Louisiana just north of 23rd St. ?after many years, it looks like something is finally going in there"In case your question is a serious one, that is where the LHS baseball field is being built.

I had Biemers for the first time last week, I didn't think it was bad. Depends on what you think is good though.

I'd say the full parking lot at Biemers every lunch hour speaks for itself.

OK kessman, I can respect that. At least you didn't try and tell me Barfolo Bob's was good bbq.

Multi, I agree. 44 duplexes will turn that entire area into trash city and run everyones property values into the dirt. I will be writing a letter objecting to this and I'm sure the rest of the neighbors will too.

Lone Steer will probably make it through the basketball season and then close it's doors. That's about how long JB can milk his father-in-law for cash to keep it afloat. The concept is good, too bad the food is not.

Any bets on how much longer Lone Steer BBQ is going to last? I never see more than one or two cars in their parking lot.

I wish Lawrence would stick to their zoning, once a developer starts his major project. It is very disheartening to put everything you've go into a new house in a new neighborhood, seeing it's zoned single family around you. Then, they allow the developer to change his mind and go multi fam.Like the man didn't plan that from the very start, but knowing his 'big' project would be better approved at the start with lots and lots of single family, he lies. But he knows..Lawrence will let him do whatever he wants later on.

Coach_Eric: (First) Worst Management Inc. is putting in a small complex by Checkers. And the strip mall at 19th and Haskell is totally appalling, but where else can you go get a 300% interest pay-day loan to set your parole straight, all while doing laundry. When you're done, it's time to go hit up the liquor store and find some good porn. Wow.

Coach Eric,I've heard that it's a new O'Reilly Auto Parts Store.Marty,

"kessman (Anonymous) says: biemers sucks"One would be more likely to accept/respect your opinion if you provided a reason or an alternative.

Raider, you have everything you could possibly need in that strip mall at 19th and Haskell, including a parole office, liquor store, and a place to rent porn. If only the rest of Lawrence could be so lucky. You are truly blessed to be located so close to such fine businesses.

Too bad we cannot get any new projects in the inner city. Thanks to the Oread Neighborhood group, the Planning Commisson, the Historic resources commission and a city commission that won't ask tough questions, the inner city, that east of Iowa continues to decline. Try getting something rezoned in those areas>
