Security cameras can be good for downtown Lawrence if purchased and put in place without a bunch of "brother-in-law" deals. However the real cost of opperation needs to be public information. We don't want another "T" (empty) deal that will cost an the tax payers an arm and a leg to maintain and opperate. We want to know the real costs before cameras are allowed so we can determine if it is worthwhile to do over the long run.

If we wanted to live in a surveillance society we'd move to NYC or London. Lawrence isn't big enough to join the headlong plunge away from the ideals this country was founded on in the name of nailing the occasional graffiti artist.

They could place inexpensive cameras up high in alley ways and just let them click away. Disguise them & don't download them until it's needed.
