Aren't they paid less already so that more money can go to the work they do?
Why is this a poll? I'm confused

It's a poll because, as a matter of fact in most cities and counties throughout the United States, non-profit employees are paid less. In San Francisco, for example - most can't even live in the city but have to live miles away, because their pay is not adequate.

Yes. Duh - if two people are managing exactly the same businesses and one can keep it going without begging from the public or grabbing it from taxpayers.

You've obviously never run a not-for-profit organization.

Certainly not all non-profits are "begging from the public or grabbing it from taxpayers."
I volunteer for a non-profit which not only pays it's own way but contributes at least 40% of its income to another service agency and recycles a lot of goods which would probably go to the garbage dump otherwise. The paid workers (most of the workers are volunteers) work extremely hard and do a very good job of running the place. I might add that supervising a bunch of volunteers isn't always a bed or roses either.

I doubt that most nonprofit agencies have a "counterpart" as a profit agency, Nonprofits are generally created because there is no profit to be made. However, where that situation does exist the nonprofit is usually forced to be competitive in order to retain quality personnel.
As usual, the LJW did not link the related story with the poll: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2012/jan...

The poll doesn't accurately allow people to express their feeling. Personally, I think the question should be if for-profit CEO's are paid too much. Plenty of US for-profit CEO's are paid way too much -- and it isn't limited to successful companies. You can have failing companies where not only do they get paid to much, but when they are finally asked to leave, they get GREAT severance packages.
