We have Knology/Sunflower and every night between 6:30 P.M. and 11:00 P.M. it slows way down! We are thinking about switching to a different company.

Ours too. Feel like we're kind of stuck though because the competition is not any better.

Sounds porn related.

If you have more than one user in your household online, that would slow it down.

Let me tell you none of the companies live up to their promises. I have A T &T and I am always waiting for pages to download. I have tried to get on other providers but they don't service south Lawrence. Broadband width is used up in seconds when everyone is on line. So there is no alternative. Is there?

Have you looked in to getting something like a Verizon card and running off that signal instead of a cable or phone company? That's what my fiance and I do at home and it goes pretty fast...maybe our house is just in a good location. Then we just bring it with us when we travel or whatnot.

How much does that run you a month?

Keep in mind that with Verizon & AT&T there are usage data caps that get very expensive once you go over.

I've upgraded to a DOCSIS 3 cable modem and my speeds are very fast with Knology/Sunflower. All things considered they are pretty reliable too.

As of last summer Freenet's wireless speed was just short of tolerably slow. Even my broadband has gotten slower lately, like everyone says--not good when you work online on a tight time schedule. I used to get some great free wireless just from what others in the neighborhood were using, but it is too unreliable to count on for work, so I had to start paying.

Works pretty well most of the time, the exception being when I am trying to use it while I drive along K-10. Seems like a lot of interference from other drivers trying to multitask while trying to navigate, attempting to avoid other drivers, the center median and the shoulder of the road. The advantage for me has been that I no longer need to read a newspaper or book while driving there.

My Speed is great... when it works.

Speed? Yes. Service? No. We go through Knology and at least once a week our internet goes completely down for a minimum of an hour. At least every two weeks the TV and phone go down with it. Truth is, ever since Knology took over Sunflower, service has gone to the dogs.

I am very happy with my speed and service. I think we may have been down for a little while once this last year, but that's been it. Now my mother on the other hand seems to have her service go down quite often (monthly at least). She lives up by Iowa St., could it be there is some issue with that area?

Google online is coming soon to KC. Perhaps a good lobby effort could bring them to Lawrence.

We have Lawrence Freenet and it sucks.

We have Giant Communications out here and I love it! have had it for 5 years and rarely a problem. I even have a magic jack hooked into my laptop and I can be on it and the computer at the same time.

skinny (Richard Johnson) says… "We have Knology/Sunflower and every night between 6:30 P.M. and 11:00 P.M. it slows way down! We are thinking about switching to a different company."
Since when did Knology start providing wireless Internet?

Actually, they do provide a few hundred rural Lawrence customers with Motorola Canopy line-of-sight broadband service. Doubt that's what he's talking about, but it's not impossible.
