Great, now we're going to have a SONS heavy board that is only interested in their own political agenda. I thought they were in favor of keeping all neighborhood schools open last year? Now, this group of hypocritical folks are saying "Let's support the task force recommendation." What? Why? Because they know whether they get on the board or not (but especially if they do), the people of Lawrence will not support a bond issue. Which means...wait for it...they'll get to keep their neighborhood schools open after all! There will be no consolidation of Cordley, HIllcrest or Pinckney. They need to only act supportive of the task force recommendation for now and wait. Oh, and in the process, these Save Our Neighborhood Schools folks are perfectly ok with sacrificing Wakarusa Valley this year. Oh, we didn't mean ALL neighborhood schools! We meant ours! Sheesh, we even marched with you guys last year. Thanks a lot for the support SONS.

No doubt! It should be called Save Our (In-Town East of Iowa) Neighborhood Schools! What a joke.

SONS- Save Own Neighborhood Schools?

I am certainly impressed with the caliber of candidates! There are several very smart, very qualified individuals running for the board. It's frankly refreshing. Thanks to all for offering to serve our children & our community in this extremely important volunteer role. Based on what I have observed from LJW coverage, attending forums, and speaking directly to each candidate, there is a lot of potential for our next board to be exceptional.

It's a nightmare to think I once lived in a "community" where someone like Ola Faucher could be head of KU HR and running for school board. Some people must have radically different ideas of quality, competence, and integrity than I do. More likely they just don't think.

Save Our Neighborhood Schools is city wide...
Save $3 million on bussing? Something to think about:
USD 497 budgets $4-4.5 million to bus students. The district is charged at a daily rate depending on how many students use the transportation.
Parents would you be willing to find other means to get your students to school IF it meant keeping all the schools open, teachers employed and retaining important subject matter/programs?
Think car pooling, family members ,walking and biking.
USD 497 says it needs $3 million. Can WE come up with $3 million?
IF 75% of students were no longer bussed: 75% of $4,000,000 = $3,000,000 (million)
75% of $4,500,000 = $3,375,000
AND put the extravagant admin office on the market. Then move the BOE meeting room and admin staff to Centennial school building... Let's bring USD 497 back to town.
Yes share the space....

Shannon Kimball seems like a decent, capable person. I once approached her about taking a case involving some hideous defamation the upstanding Ms. Faucher and her southern-justice staff who are not above totally inventing witnesses to frame and smear people did to me. Dang, liars bug me, and KU has their share. Mixed with incompetence it's a toxic combination.
Ms. Faucher is more than Machiavellian in her abuse of power, and no one locally has the guts or conscience to hold her office accountable. She's even got James McCabria in her back pocket. Why else besides evil KU ability to pull strings would he obediently press charges before police have even investigated someone engaging in a protected speech/protest KU's failure to provide legally required grievance procedures?

I am now just as likely to believe that Ola Faucher is a horrible person as I am to believe that Shannon Kimball is a decent one, or not. Hard to know the truth here.

"How can I only vote for one? It's unfair." - Sven

You know, I've been subscribed to the SONS newsletter since last year and there has been almost NOTHING about this election (other than a message today urging people to vote) or any sort of agenda. So, I think that one would have to be misinformed to think that SONS is very active as a group. Last year there were a lot of posts daily. This year, nada. There are still people involved in it, but it is unfair to assign a group opinion or consensus where their appears to be neither.
