Yes, I have and do occasionally. If someone knows how to use it in a meal, it is pretty darn good. Why heck, sometimes I even eat a granola bar. But, don't get me wrong. I will NEVER wear a pair of Birkenstocks or rag wool socks.

I do thanks to the guiltless gourmet, Iv tried s few of her receipes.

Only if it's cooked with something else that has a strong flavor that it'll absorb.

On its own, ugh!

0

Did_I_say_that 2 years, 1 month ago

I tried it once and promptly spit it out. Yuck!

0

RoeDapple 2 years, 1 month ago

Well, yes I have . . .

But if you try a few squares of particle board fried in bacon grease you'll never go back.

Not my favorite food, but can get it down if good manners dictate it.

It goes great with beef.

I eat Central Soyfoods tofu and tempeh. Love their tofu.

0

equalaccessprivacy 2 years, 1 month ago

Central Soyfoods does an excellent job making tofu--among the best I've tasted.

Good with some thai dishes. It can wind up with so many flavors and consistencies based on how and with what it's prepared, that it's difficult to see how someone could flatly say that they hate it in all its forms

Years ago somebody put a slab of tofu on my grill and turned around and walked off. A few minutes later my lab thought it was grilled to perfection.

You don't just "eat" tofu. It must be cooked, or added to a meal to be used.

0

Pywacket 2 years, 1 month ago

I prefer to chop turkey or beef into little bits and then mold them into tofu-shaped cubes---because everyone knows how much more enjoyable food is if it's pretending to be something it isn't. I call the cubes "turkfu" or "beefu."

I like it my hot and sour soup.

0

independant1 2 years, 1 month ago

I rate tofu right up there with paste, guar gum and soylent green.

Tofu? ITS PEOPLE, I TELL YOU...TOFU IS PEOPLE!

0

Kris_H 2 years, 1 month ago

It's good a lot of ways. I prefer that someone else keep it and cook it, though. I do like it in hot and sour soup, and I had some marinated, baked tofu from The Merc that was great even by itself, which is unusual for tofu.

What I think is icky are most of the pretend meats. If you want something that tastes and looks like meat, eat meat. My opinion is that vegetables should taste like vegetables and tofu should taste like whatever else you cook it with, the spicier the better. :)

Most vegetarians don't want something that tastes like meat. I think the fake meats are supposed to appeal to people who are trying to eat healthier, maybe... I dunno. Some of them taste okay but you're right, they don't taste like meat and should stop trying to pretend.

Tofu is a blank slate. It is what you make of it. On its own or inadequately seasoned, yuck. Cooked well with a good sauce/flavor it's yummy. I marinate it in soy sauce, garlic, ginger, whatever else sounds good and then bake it, it's delicious.

0

dulcinea47 2 years, 1 month ago

You're only going to get enough to affect you if you eat tons of soy, all the time, everyday. It is in a lot of processed foods so you have to look out for that, but generally speaking, the occasional tofu meal is not going to hurt you at all.

I know there was some idiot awhile back who said tofu makes you gay because of the psedo-estrogens. If that were true then most of Japan would be gay. There is more real estrogen in beef from the injections they get on the ranch to fatten them up.

I'll eat it if it is wrapped in bacon

0

somedude20 2 years, 1 month ago

I love meat but a friend and I ordered from Encore and I could not tell which was the teriyaki chicken (mine) and which was the tofu teriyaki chicken (hers). I guess you could bread and fry a rat, people would eat it. Of course deep frying the tofu eliminated most of the healthy elements to it

"Of course deep frying the tofu eliminated most of the healthy elements to it" - somedude20

You still have the undesirable hormones...

0

Cappy 2 years, 1 month ago

As I mention above, there are more hormones in beef thanks to ranchers injecting them.

0

CWGOKU 2 years, 1 month ago

Bacon wrapped, deep fried tofu... might be OK.

Ain't tofu French? Like them little pancakes?

0

RoeDapple 2 years, 1 month ago

I'll just stick with 'mercun food! Like french fries, tacos and vodka!

0

gsxr600 2 years, 1 month ago

No thanks I don't want moobs

0

speak_up 2 years, 1 month ago

Plenty of men eat tofu and don't get moobs. The secret is to get your lazy butt off the couch and exercise a little bit. Funny... the same things helps for carnivores... And I know I've seen far more squishy carnivores than vegetarians.

CWGOKU 2 years, 1 month ago

Just yankin' Autie. I know what tofu is and I am not eating any of it.

0

Cappy 2 years, 1 month ago

I love it. I'm no vegetarian, but I can make some good tofu dishes. I even worked at Central Soyfoods for a little while when it was at 14th and Mass behind the old Waxman Candle shop. It's good for you, good for the environment, versatile, and cheap!

0

jafs 2 years, 1 month ago

You certainly could if you wanted to.

I make tofu chili with onions, garlic, tomatoes and chili spices - you could add sour cream or yogurt as well.

It's quite good.

"but generally speaking, the occasional tofu meal is not going to hurt you at all." = dulcinea47 Yea the city says the water is safe to drink too...

0

Cappy 2 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, you're right about the water. Better go drink out of the river.

0

RETICENT_IRREVERENT 2 years, 1 month ago

Cappy, My beef has no hormone injections.
But my bambi may have estrogen from soybeans.

0

Cappy 2 years, 1 month ago

So you only buy beef at the Merc? Good for you.

0

cletus26 2 years, 1 month ago

sounds high in sodium. and the name doesn't even sound appealing.

0

speak_up 2 years, 1 month ago

No, actually, it is not high in sodium at all.

Time Out For Upchuggin' - TOFU

0

adagio 2 years, 1 month ago

I eat tofu all.of.the.time. I eat it weekly and it is the greatest thing on earth. People who do not like tofu haven't eaten it prepared the right away. It is so versatile which makes it amazing!

0

speak_up 2 years, 1 month ago

Tofu is delicious and nutritious. Well, one can make it delicious with a little skill.
