I knowed all the words for forty years but I'll be damned if I could ever carry the tune without the Jayhawk Marching Band.

The new words do not find the tune. There needs to be a 'the' in front of the word 'cowboys' in the opening refrain. Also, another word needs to be inserted in the phrase about the cyclones. Otherwise, it is pretty good. I would have to liked to see some (not all) of the other entrants to the contest.
As an alumna of the Kansas Jayhawk band, I remember having to sing the song as we marched. We would play it once, sing it once and then play it again. I will probably still sing the old words.

I thought all the Jayhawks could do was to croak out a thin, reedy sounding "kawwwwwwwwwwwww."

Move to Oklahoma. "Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner. Catchy. And easy to remember, except the middle part taken from North Carolina's "I'm a Tarheel Born"
Sure didn't help us tonight! (against shhhhhhhh.....Misouri!)
