Own as many dogs as you want. The city has several silly laws on the books they do not or will not enforce. Our city leaders are weak.

I'd change it, but move it down to zero. It is already like living in a kennel, considering each neighbor already has 2-3 mutts yapping at all hours of the day and night. We won't even go into how delicious piles of dog poo and urine smell on those warm spring days.

Buy bun-length hot dogs. They seem to come in packages of eight.

If the dogs are wieners, apparently so . . . .

I don't think it's any of the citiy's business how many dogs a family has.

ivalueamerica 5 years ago

ahh, but therein lies the rub with no government folks...

Where do my rights go when you have 50 dogs and they smell the neighborhood, keep my family awake all night barking and lower my property value because no on wants to buy a house with 50 smelly noisy dogs.

rfuller 5 years ago

50 is an exaggeration. The question asks about 4 (F O U R) not 50 .

And, dogs stinking up a whole neighborhood is also a huge exaggeration. . .I've never seen such a thing.

If there is going to be an ordinance limiting the number of animals--it needs to include ALL animals (not just dogs).

Is there any chance you missed the fact that my comments were to liberty275 who suggests it is not the governments business how many pets a person owns?

I suggest you try harder to keep up.

Liberty275 5 years ago

"they smell (up) the neighborhood" "keep my family awake all night barking"

Then maybe those things should be illegal, not the simple ownership of a certain number of dogs. The number of dogs isn't what you are citing, but rather what could be the result of a single dog.

"lower my property value because no on wants to buy a house with 50 smelly noisy dogs."

Why are you selling your dogs with your house?

You should value America less and your freedom more. The latter is what makes the first so great.

This is a difficult question. I think that people who own too many pets for the space they live in may be hoarding these animals for all the wrong reasons. I know of a gal who rents a house, actually Section 8 housing, has several dogs she can't handle so she keeps them either chained or in cages inside the house! They do not receive the excersise nor the love they deserve beacuse this gal doesn't have the time or the means to do so, They are filthy, the house stinks and the dogs are mean. It is sad that animals suffer due to the human need to fill some kind of emotional void in their lives.

No more than 3 unrelated dogs per dwelling, same as the tenant law. Allow more dogs, then allow more tenants. :)

Don't need to change laws. Call the Humane Society if the dogs are not being treated well. There are some laws on the books as we speak that would probably apply as necessary.

Hey if people want 8 dogs, love them and treat them well so what.

There are probably some people who should not own one dog.

The Humane Society is active and well versed.

One person is demanding this change it appears.

Well Put !! I know people with 1 dog and I think they shouldn't have it and I know people with 4 or more and they love and take care of all of them. Call the Humane Society. Don't change the law. Get involved

I didn't know there was an ordiance, but I would have no problem with it if people were responsible and considerate of their neighbors. I see too many people in this town who do not take proper care of their animals and could care less if their barking disturbs the neighbors. So until people get a clue I say NO.

SpeedRacer 5 years ago

My dog wouldn't bark so much if she could get hold of the neighbor's obnoxious cat.

This is a city ordinance, not a county ordinance, right? Therefore, if someone wants to own more than 4 dogs, they could move outside the city - problem solved.

Calliope877 5 years ago

I think it's irresponsible to have more than four dogs. It'd be like having too many kids which I think is irresponsible as well.

What about an ordinance pertaining to the amount of human family members a dog can have in city limits... population control perhaps
