Why would someone need more than a 1,000 songs?
persevering_gal 3 years ago
You would be surprised at how quickly songs can age on road trips.
Tamara Degner 3 years ago
Yeah, I guess I never thought about a road trip. That would be a good idea.

I'm approaching 5,000 and still feel the need for greater variety.
swonder44 3 years ago
Um, I have over 1,000 bootleg concert songs alone. Scott3460 said it best. Why limit your music selection? The diversity out there is incredible....

I've got something like 2500 songs on mine, and I don't think it's even close to full. I like it because I hear songs I really like but had forgotten I even had. I guess some people could go through life with the same 1000 songs, but with so many good songs in the world, why would you choose to limit yourself?

I like to run listening to the birds and the train whistles and my feet hitting the track or pavement and the sound of my breathing and all the sounds around me (including any approaching vehicles) rather than songs.
parrothead8 3 years ago
See, when I'm cycling, I'm like you. I'd rather hear what's going on around me...the wind, the birds, my tires on the pavement (plus it's a safety thing.) But when I'm on campus or walking around town, I'd rather not hear most of the inane mumblings reverberating through this town.

MP3s suck as far as sound quality goes....
gccs14r 3 years ago
So do CDs.
dinglesmith 3 years ago
Maybe when compared to live music, but for recorded music it beats etching your music on Tupperware and scratching it with a needle.
gccs14r 3 years ago
No, 16-bit CD audio blows in comparison to a good LP played on good equipment.
Bryan Wilcox 3 years ago
Only if you encode them that way. Bump up the bitrate, use one of the VBR profiles, encode with LAME 3.98. If you prefer use FLAC or Apple Lossless (ALAC) and enjoy master quality audio.

14339 songs on my Ipod.
magnus 3 years ago
4,800 songs and growing every day! Free live recordings on archive.org is the biggest source of new music on my iPod! I can't afford to buy $15 CDs at Best Buy, and many of the artists I want to listen to aren't sold there anyway!

8,500...and one of these days i'm gonna buy a USB turntable so I can put all of my records on my ipod.
alm77 3 years ago
I only have 345 on my iPod, but way more in my music library. I switch it up regularly. I have to keep it manageable on the player.

Whatever 8GB is...I listen to approximately 500 MB of it on a regular basis. "Shuffle" is a killer.

On the advice of legal counsel...I respectfully decline to answer that question.
Bite me RIAA.

Why is "zero" not on the poll? I use an MP3 player everyday for about 8 hours. However, there is not one song on it. I listen to audio books and podcasts with it.
phoggyjay 3 years ago
not many... i only use wav files. quality over quantity.

No mp3 player, no cell phone, no television. Yeah I'm a freak. I'm doing pretty well to have switched from dial-up to DSL 2 years ago.
...and, NO I do not drive a horse and buggy or use an outhouse!!
gccs14r 3 years ago
Eww. I would hope you'd at least use an outhouse. So do you dump your honey pot at the curb, or over the neighbor's fence?

LOL @ why someone would need more than 1000 songs, I used to collect cds, I had well over 3500 ORIGINAL cds at one point, no cd-rs or anything dubbed, all original with inserts, etc. I have slimmed my collection down to around 750 or so now. I dont have a mp3 player but I imagine if I did it would have as many songs as I could hold on it
