I'm surprised that more people didn't mention Chestnuts. I think we all know the Christmas song "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...". However, I had never tasted them until about 2 years ago. Lawrence has an individual who grows them and sells them (at least at the Merc). Anyway, they were delicious. The next time they are in season, (late fall if I remember correctly), you might want to consider roasting some.

I didn't see “Phelps” on the list. Ought to at least be a choice.

If someone were to say they liked Phelp's nuts, then all that would do would be to give his group another reason to visit Lawrence.

Really? Did the poster of this poll not see see these answers coming or did he/she just want to see how many people said "wing". I'm betting the poster is playing a drinking game where everyone drinks when someone posts "wing". There, that's two for you!

Since nuts play such a large role in our daily life and diet it wasn't long before we started using "nut" in all sorts of non-literal, figurative senses. By around 1300, "nut" meant anything inconsequential. Later on we reconsidered, and "nut" was used to mean a difficult situation or problem ("a tough nut to crack").

By the mid-1800s, we were using "nut" to mean a person's head, and around the same time we decided that someone not quite right in the old noggin was "off his nut" or simply "nuts."

I found this on Yahoo and thought it was very interesting. My fave is fresh roasted cashews.

I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.

My favorite is wingnuts. I find them very entertaining, usually with vodka.
