PWNED? Really? Give up the "leetspeak" ... it's so... 1998.

Incidentally, Goldie Hawn isn't Goldie Hawn on steroids. You confuse her role on Laugh-In with her real life personna. Her life partner is one of the biggest thinkers in Hollywood and I'm betting they've stayed together because she has a lot more to her personality than her screen character. In addition, and I hate to keep returning to what we're doing and what Goldie Hawn has done with her life, but for some reason today it just seems so relevant.

Sad news - The Office will not be on tonight due to the debate. Cancel the debate!

Haiku_Cuckoo 6 years, 7 months ago

Biden and Palin will say plenty of dumb things tonight. The moderator should have a sound effects button so she can push it every time a gaffe is made. When Biden mentions Roosevelt being president in 1929, we'll hear the "boing" sound. When Palin says she doesn't understand the Bush Doctrine, we'll hear a loud "ah-oo-gah!" sound like an old car horn. We could be in for some comedy gems this evening.

I don't think my wife would like that either, T_O_B!

Marion, what part of "Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down, with a three-star general and three senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where they are." affirmatively indicates Biden was under attack? Biden says his helicopter was forced down and it was. While he's likely susceptible to an allegation he begged the question by failing to suppress the thought an enemy must have been involved, he didn't say he was under attack from the Taliban either.Do you believe the Taliban aren't in the mountains between Pakistan and Afghanistan? At least Biden's been to these places as opposed to Palin's experience with vacationing in Canada/Mexico and the portions of Russia she could see if she ever traveled to Little Diomede Island. If I recall correctly, Palin overstated/mischaracterized her trip to Kuwait as including a venture into Iraq, didn't she?"Palin made an official visit to see Alaskan troops in Kuwait in July of 2007. There, she made a stop at a border crossing with Iraq on July 25, according to the Boston Globe, but did not go further into the country. "Sarah Palin's visit to Iraq in 2007 consisted of a brief stop at a border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait, the vice presidential candidate's campaign said yesterday, in the second official revision of her only trip outside North America," the Globe's Bryan Bender wrote, adding, later in his story: "[C]ampaign aides and National Guard officials in Alaska said by telephone yesterday that she did not venture beyond the Kuwait-Iraq border." http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/13/report_palin_did_not_visit_ira.html?hpid=topnews

LOVE ya, Uhlrick!!! You're 11:30 posts were gold, spot on, perfectamundo. Rationality and fairness are rare 'round these here parts, so happy to have you here. Don't be scarce.I'm not a big fan of Biden and was desperately hoping BO would pick someone else. Honestly speaking, my biggest problem with him is more on the personal side- - I just think he's a bit of a big mouth, too cocky for his own good and loves the sound of his own voice. I believe that's why he gets into trouble so often. It's amazing that some of his racial comments haven't gotten him into hotter water, but being a liberal gets you a pass in that area from time to time.He has served with distinction, though, and his tragedy marred beginning in the Senate is nothing short of admirable and inspirational. I don't like that he voted to grant illegals Social Security benefits or that he wants to include drug trafficking under the death penalty.

While we're on the topic of plagiarism, perhaps the one profession that engages in both plagiarism and lies about one's personal background is the ministry.I'm not trying to throw red meat to the anti-religious folks here, or insult people of faith, but it is a simple fact that many preachers get their sermons from online websites and that they often attribute the personal experiences of others to themselves in their sermons to make them more personal. Ask them, they'll tell you that they often grant themselves license to embellish and personalize the examples in their sermons, sermons that are plagiarized word-for-word from colleagues and online sources. RIck Warren, the guru of the Purpose Driven model puts his own up online and invites those who share his views to steal them.Does that mean your minister should be run out of the pulpit? I think not. What does Biden think, what policies will he promote?

How many time will Palin skirt around the question and avoid any answers? How many times will Biden shove his foot in his mouth? How many times will the commentators after talk about the moderator being pro-obama?Biggest question of the night. How funny will the new episode of The Office be?

Gareth Skarka 6 years, 7 months ago

"he recieved five student deferments to avoid serving in Vietnam."Wake up -- the entire world, with the small exception of the hardcore Bushie 20-percenters, have long come to the realization that the Vietnam War was a huge blunder, not some "noble cause."He avoided service? Good!

As of this moment the repub VP is under investigation for impeachable offenses in Alaska so said radio news today. She was under investigation at the request of republicans when she was chosen.McCain judgement is impaired a great deal.

Is there going to be a swimsuit component to the competition?

I'm going to count how many times Palin says "Bridge to nowhere," "Thanks but no thanks," and "good old boys."

Uhlrick_Hetfield_III 6 years, 7 months ago

Just to put things in perspective, Joe Biden has been a senator since what, his 20's? He drove home every night to take care of his kids. Every night.Sarah Palin is the governor of Alaska and has a record of taking on big oil and some of the most corrupt weasels in her own party and winning. On the other hand, we're wasting time sitting on a meaningless anonymous blog telling people how stupid we think these two achievers are. Back to the issues, please.

RedwoodCoast 6 years, 7 months ago

Why hasn't Palin pulled a Clinton and busted out a musical instrument? I know she could play the flute at one time. She should probably even do it while wearing a swimsuit.

LeslieJeanne 6 years, 7 months ago

The reality is that Palin is Goldie Hawn on steroids, remember Laugh-In anyone? I said it before and I will say it again, this girl is just not bright. She is not qualified to be or do anything. As far as her being the mother of several children, one with special needs, what has that got to do with anything? As far as her daughter is concerned I know as a parent and I think we all know that you can talk all you want to your children, but when they are old enough to go out on their own they will make their own decisions, unless you intend to sit in the back seat on every date. These two are not intelligent, they are not articulate, they are not literate, they are not qualified.

Uhlrick_Hetfield_III 6 years, 7 months ago

Here we go again with the personal attacks on Biden. And W was a Rhodes scholar? We had a Rhodes scholar and you guys didn't like him either. So which is it? Again, just for a refreshing departure from all the BS. What are your policy differences with Biden, or are you ignorant of what his positions are?

woodenfleaeater 6 years, 7 months ago

How many times Gov. Palin calls herself and McCain "mavericks". That is comical!!

1029 6 years, 7 months ago

How much Palin compensates for her slower-than-average thought process by continuously repeating things like "mavericks" and "reformers" while her mind struggles to catch up to the words pouring from her mouth. If she gets nervous, she is going to stray off topic and rumsfeld her way through her response. It will be interesting to see if she is allowed to give responses that do not answer the questions (as she did with Couric and Gibson) or if Biden or Ifell call her out on her failure to answer questions and ask her to clarify. It will also be entertaining to watch how she uses cutesy language ("awesome" and "you betcha", for example) and goofy facial expressions to compensate for her lack of knowledge and to appeal to simpletons who just want to see a "nice lady" who is a "washington outsider" whom they "can relate to".I also wonder how far into the debate it will be before she goes off on some tangent about the "executive experience" that she is so proud of and how her experiences in Alaska qualify her to be president.

Those little giveaways that Sarah is indeed a man, baby!

Uhlrick_Hetfield_III 6 years, 7 months ago

These are both decent people and I'm just so sick of hearing about Biden's gaffes and the elitist comments about Palin's background. Talk about the issues. Biden isn't going to make any life and death decisions by shooting from the lip regardless of what he says in this, or any other debate, nor do we gain any ground by trying to make this intelligent and resourceful woman into another Dan Quayle. What do they think, and what do they want to do about the significant issues of the day? We're all suckers if we allow either side to distract us from those questions.

Uhlrick_Hetfield_III 6 years, 7 months ago

Jaywalker:Thank you. I just think that you could write a book on any of these fine people and never write a derogatory line and here we are hoping Biden will stumble, or that Palin will look stupid. How does that improve our country? It doesn't.How many good people refuse to run for public office because they don't want to put themselves and their families through this stupidity? Hats off to all four of these people with thanks for their public service and concern for our country.

beatrice 6 years, 7 months ago

Uhlrick, you could write a book about George Bush without being derogatory as well if you wanted to. But would it be truthful? Would it be helpful? I'm sorry, but there is nothing wrong with writing serious criticism about politicians' views on the issues. For instance, pretending that a mayor who charged rape victims for their rape kits is somehow okay isn't going to improve our country either. Thinking that a governor who could be a heart beat away from the presidency and is against abortions in the cases of rape and incest isn't something that should be ignored.
