Better than getting shot....Well maybe sometimes......

Tasers are a "Less Lethal" weapon, not a 'Non-Lethal" weapon. As such, the standards for using them should be little different from the use of firearms, not merely to try to gain control of a belligerent subject. As I understand it, the Department of Corrections does not give their people Tasers 'till they have completed training which includes including being tasered themselves.

Boy ... you'd think it would go without saying that you don't pass out weapons without proper training ... then, again, I used to live in Topeka, so ... good point.

Tazers are the viagra of law enforcement. The company that makes them have worked tirelessly at creating a market for them.

The deputies carry steel or aluminum collapsible batons, as well. You NEVER hit someone on the head with a baton. Along with a Taser, they have two less than lethal alternatives to their firearm. Rather than making statements about the incident, I prefer waiting until the coroner's and detective's investigations have been completed. Thank you, Lynn

I had a police officer tell me that when he went through training, they required him to take a shot of a tazer, so that he would know what it felt like.Is this true?

Of course, it is a better option than a bullet in some cases. Nothing in life is without risk so I say zap them zap them good!

Mariann,Just what is it that you do in your life that forces the cops to deal with you so negatively? Must be some pretty bad stuff. Oh, wait! If that can't be true! You're still here. Could it be the cops aren't the ones that are "retarded stupid"?

Hell No, they use it way to much then they should. My 16 year old sister got taser just because she was skipping school and wouldn't go back. Topeka's police need to slove things different ways other then a taser unless there life is at risk. I mean come on there is no way a 230 pound 16 year old was anywhere threating there life or anyone else. When they started being able to use those tasers they use that instead of the peper spary. 1200 can kill young and old people and they don't put that to thought just what is the lazy way to deal with it and get off on causing harm to people.

i believe that darting a suspect with drugs to knock them unconcious while fun to watch would probably be even more dangerous than the other discussed methods, plus then they would have to go to the e.r. and they couldnt hear their rights. lol. i can see the jeeps chasing the suspects while cops are perched on the hood. maybe i would support this if they would also tag them hehee.
