Probably because question says which is, "more likely". Both can't be more likely than the other to win the national championship...though I suppose you could say they have an equal chance of winning it.
Why is there not an option for "Both"?
This is a good question where several factors must be weighed and considered.
I think the football team has a better chance. The tipping point in the analysis has to be the comparative post season for the respective sports. In basketball there is a 6 game, one-and-done tournament, when the best team doesn't always win. Whereas in football, there is just one game you have to win. KU Football only needs to win 3 more to get to that game. Statistically at this point, it is "more likely" KU Football will be a national champ. But I think both are possible and arguably both are "likely".
Guys, it basic stats:
Who's more likely to live to age 76? A 70 year old or a 5 year old? The basketball team hasn't even played a game yet!
