I don't know... Thats a lot of $$$
On the other hand Lawrence was just rated poor "on things to do" by Frommers(see recent articles in LJW about Lawrence top 100th city")...

20 MiL....duh..what about the budget cuts that are occurring.....we come up with 20 million and the city is crunching for cash....can we look at this picture again?

Lots of smoke. I wonder, if the taxpayers freak out over the alarming budget cuts that hurt lots of people, and approve the new Hack sales tax, will money suddenly appear out of nowhere for P.L.A.Y.?

Sales tax receipts are down (probably because more shoppers are shopping out of Lawrence and lower discretionary income due to high gas prices), prompting proposals of cuts in city services.
Home values are likely to grow much more slowly over the next few years, leading to a slowdown in the growth of property tax receipts.
Road repairs are likely to be more frequent and more expensive than might have been anticipated a few years ago.
And yet some propose we commit to even more fixed cost to provide recreation services? And a new library? The ice rink is what really kills me.
Time for every body to look at the fiscal facts and get real. We're going to have a hard enough time paying for extant commitments, let alone a bunch of new ones.
