I like the idea of user-supported facilities and services, but even if it takes that to make the pool pay for itself, that is too much for children. Mine is already out of college, so not an issue. Charge what it takes to make the (emp)T and Eagle Bend pay for themselves. Golf is a luxury that should not be subsidized by the taxpayers, and the (emp)T should not be relied on as subsidized transportation. You use it, you pay for it and keep the rest of the taxpayers out of it.

The pool has become an inexpensive daycare center for parents that work downtown. The kids have been nicknamed "Pool Rats" by the lifeguards. It is so bad that lifeguards recognize the kids when not at the pool. I think raising the rates to $4 for everyone is a great idea. What would parents do if there was a sudden severe thunderstorm and the pool had to be closed down early?

No way. There isn't a lot for low-income kids to do during the summer these days. I didn't have a lot of money when I was a kid and the pool was a good option in the Summer. Luckily, my children have more opportunity than I did, but I still think raising the cost impacts the wrong people. What does the pool have to do with "The T" losing money anyway?
