A pickup truck smashed through a fence and then into the front porch of a home in the 400 block of West Sixth Street Thursday evening. According to witnesses, the eastbound truck crossed lanes, clipped a tree and then went airborne before crashing through the fence and into the porch. A truck tire was found in the front yard near the street. The homeowner was inside the front room reading to her child when the accident happened.
Because available bathrooms are too far from the new Lawrence High School baseball field, the school district now must build some restrooms at the LHS baseball complex. The question is where will the money come from.
A new bronze Jayhawk sculpture landed outside the east side of the Anderson Family Football Complex on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011. The sculpture will begin a tradition for the football players to touch the Hawk's beak for luck when exiting the locker-room during games. Setting the sculpture in place from left is Eric Epperson, with Fullbright Sign, Lawrence, John Free, of The Bronze Horse, Pawhuska, Okla., the sculptor, and his wife Cindy Free.
