Seven-year-old Matt Reimer, of Lawrence, is a member of the Ad Astra Area Aquatics swim team. He has been diagnosed with a complex and rare neurodegenerative disorder. He has been accepted by the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore to participate in the Lorenzo’s Oil medical study to attempt prevention of cerebral onset.

Some of the beers 23rd Street Brewery features are from left, Wave the Wheat Ale, Kansas Prairie Light, Big Leaf Porter and Bitter Professor IPA. During the week, 23rd Street Brewery will be featuring a 2008 Russian Imperial Stout, a Belgian Strong Gold, a Belgian Dark Strong and will be tapping this summer’s California Common, which Llewellyn describes as a “very popular beer that comes out every summer.”

Crews repair power lines on U.S. Highway 56 just west of the Kansas Highway 33 intersection, Thursday, May 12, 2011. U.S. Highway 56 was closed Wednesday night after a thunderstorm knocked down power lines near the road. One lane of the highway reopened late Thursday morning.
