Alan Jones smiles at his bride, Tracey Bowman, Friday during their wedding in the Shawnee Mission Medical Center chapel. Jones survived — "miraculously," hospital staff said — a ruptured aorta and seven-hour surgery to repair it last week. The Shawnee couple have been together seven years and planned to get married this summer, but after his condition stabilized and he emerged from anesthesia Monday, Jones told Bowman he didn't want to wait any longer. A hospital chaplain performed the ceremony, attended by relatives, friends and hospital personnel, who the couple credit with saving Jones' life.
