The 3rd Annual Fuzzy Pony Invitational Disc Golf Tournament was April 3 at the property of David, Kathy and Riese Wismer and Charlie, Cydney and Hannah Upton in Vinland Valley. This year’s event drew 77 disc golfers from Fort Collins, Colo., to Gainesville, Fla., and raised more than $3,000 for the Lawrence Humane Society. Sponsors for the event were Grip Equipment, DJ Flummerfelt with American Family Insurance, Sunflower Outdoor, 23rd Street Brewery and HR Benefits.
Ad Astra Area Aquatics held its first annual banquet April 10 to celebrate its first year as a swim team in Lawrence. From left are coach Cassie Campbell and coach Patrick Norman with “AAAA Female Performance of the Year” nominees Claire Campbell (50 freestyle at Division 1 championship meet), Carter Stacey (500 freestyle at Division 2), and Marian Frick (100 breaststroke at Division 2), all of Lawrence. Claire Campbell won the award.
Ad Astra Area Aquatics held its first annual banquet April 10. Among the awards given was the “AAAA Relay Performance of the Year.” From left are Emma Reaney, Heather Cistola, Gretchen Frick and Lucy Sirimongkhon-Dyck, all of Lawrence, and winners of the “AAAA Relay Performance of the Year” award for their fifth-place medley relay at the 2011 Spring Sectionals held in March in Oklahoma City.
