Young high jumpers from Kansas and western Missouri bide their time in the shade as the bar is raised to a little over 3 feet during the USATF qualifiers for region 16 on Friday at Lawrence High School, 1901 La. According to meet officials, about 800 kids ages 8-18 will be participating in the meet for a chance to compete in the Junior Olympics meet in Wichita that runs July 26-31.
