<strong>Manufacturing/Distribution</strong> Winner:<strong></strong> Amarr Garage Doors, which has 625 employees in Lawrence and spent $17 million to add 130,000 square feet to its plant in the East Hills Business Park. <strong>Accepting award: </strong>Kristen Krug, director of people for distribution facilities; she also picked up a Foundation Award from the chamber and Lawrence City Commission on Tuesday night. <strong>Other finalists: </strong>Berry Plastics, Sauer-Danfoss Co.
<strong>Retail/Hospitality</strong> <strong>Winner:</strong> Crown Chevrolet-Toyota-Scion, which last year expanded its operation at 3400 Iowa from 9,000 square feet of showroom and service areas to 75,000 square feet today. Crown's sales are up 48 percent during the past five years, as the company's employment increased from 68 to 100. <strong>Accepting award:</strong> Miles Schnaer, owner. <strong>Other finalist: </strong>The Eldridge Hotel.
<strong>Service</strong> <strong>Winner: </strong>Callahan Creek Inc., an advertising and public relations firm at 805 N.H., its home for the past seven years after relocating from Topeka. Clients include Hill's Pet Nutrition and Toyota Motor Sales USA. <strong>Accepting award:</strong> Cindy Maude, president and CEO. <strong>Other finalists: </strong>Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, Douglas County Bank.
<strong><strong>Technology</strong> Winner: </strong>Pinnacle Technology Inc., which recently moved into its own building at 2721 Ore., where it designs diagnostic sensors and controls. Business is up 356 percent during the past five years. Among recent contracts: $1.1 million for the National Institutes of Health and $750,000 for the Department of Defense. <strong>Accepting award:</strong> Donna Johnson, president. <strong>Other finalist: </strong>Netopia Inc.
<strong>Small Business</strong> <strong>Winner: </strong>KU Credit Union, which on Monday opened its second Lawrence location, at 2221 W. 31st St. Since 2001 memberships are up 42 percent, and employment climbed from five to 16. <strong>Accepting award:</strong> Ginger Wehner, president. <strong>Other finalists:</strong> Peggy Johnson, Ameriprise Financial Services; Legends Drive Dental Center; and James F. Otten, a Lawrence dentist.
<strong>Bob Billings Rising Star Award</strong> <strong>Winner:</strong> Legends Drive Dental Center, 4900 Legends Drive, picked up the award given to a company that is less than 5 years old but shows "rising potential," chamber chairman Pat Flavin said. The dental center focuses on having the latest technology for its patients. It also provides charity care and supports several community organizations. <strong>Accepting award:</strong> Dr. Ryan Brittingham, owner.
