Confrontation with machete follows road rage incident in Lawrence

A road rage incident devolved into a face-to-face confrontation with a machete Thursday in Lawrence, police say.

The altercation began with a “road rage incident” shortly before 5 p.m., Officer Derrick Smith of the Lawrence Police Department said in an email to media on Friday. Smith said that after the drivers pulled into a parking lot in the 2300 block of Wakarusa Drive, they got out of their vehicles and one man confronted the other driver with a machete.

The two got into a physical altercation before witnesses subdued the man with the machete, Smith said. Officers arrived and arrested him.

Smith said the victim suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

According to jail records, the suspect, a 25-year-old De Soto man, was booked on suspicion of aggravated battery.
