Eudora student, 17, dies from injuries suffered in wreck

A Eudora High School student has died from injuries she suffered in a recent wreck.

Aftyn D. Hankins, 17, was injured in a one-vehicle crash reported shortly before 4 p.m. July 26 near 102nd Street and Kansas Highway 4 in Jefferson County, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. The location is between Meriden and Ozawkie.

Aftyn was driving an SUV westbound on 102nd Street when she went off the road, struck a fence and rolled the vehicle three and a half times, according to the report. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the report.

Aftyn was taken to a hospital from the scene.

She died on Thursday, according to her obituary.

According to the obituary, Aftyn was currently enrolled at Eudora High School but had previously attended school in Oskaloosa.
