The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission on Monday unanimously agreed that revised plans for a new Wal-Mart in northwestern Lawrence are a substantial change from the plan submitted in June 2006 and therefore can proceed to the next step in the planning process.

To the editor: The city is always talking about being broke, and yet they spend thousands of dollars fighting Wal-Mart on the new store they want to build. This store would put a lot of people to work (maybe not at a great salary, but at least they would have a job).

Wal-Mart will try again. A developer that’s working to bring a Wal-Mart to the northwest corner of Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive confirmed Friday that the retailer will submit new plans for the city to consider, rather than immediately putting the project back in the hands of a judge.
