Tonganoxie man sentenced to more than 10 years for 2013 Lawrence Bank robbery

Randy Ashworth

A Douglas County judge sentenced a 43-year-old Tonganoxie man to more than 10 years in prison for his involvement in an early 2013 bank robbery in Lawrence.

Randy Ashworth pleaded no contest to felony robbery in April for the Feb. 13, 2013, robbery of Lawrence Bank, 100 E. Ninth St. On Tuesday, District Judge Paula Martin sentenced Ashworth to 128 months in prison and ordered him to pay more than $4,000 in restitution.

“I’d like to apologize to the victim and I’m very remorseful for what I’ve done,” Ashworth said before his sentence was read.

Ashworth’s attorney, Branden Smith, told Martin that Ashworth was dealing with substance abuse issues and sought money to feed his addiction at the time of the robbery. Ashworth’s sentence will follow a pair of Jackson County, Mo., cases for which Ashworth was on parole.
