Charges expected against second man arrested following Sunday armed robbery

The second of two Lawrence men arrested in connection with a Sunday armed robbery has been booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

Chris Edward Spencer, 23, is in jail on a $25,000 bond, one day after Jamal Dominique Pellis, 19, appeared in Douglas County District Court. Pellis and Spencer were both arrested about a half hour after allegedly displaying a handgun and demanding money from two occupants of an apartment in the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road.

According to Douglas County District Court filings, Spencer was sentenced to one year probation in November after pleading guilty to domestic battery.

Formal charges against Spencer have yet to be filed, but during Pellis’ Wednesday hearing, Assistant District Attorney Catherine Decena said she expected charges to be filed within two to three days.

Pellis has no criminal history, according to Decena. In a complaint filed in district court against Pellis, state prosecutors allege that Pellis used a gun to take cash, a wallet and marijuana from two victims.
