Budding jazz pianist plans hometown performance

Lawrence native and ascending young jazz pianist Addison Frei is bringing his jazz group, AMP Trio, to his hometown for an upcoming performance.

The performance, scheduled for 8 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., will include music from the group’s debut album, “Flow.” Tickets, which can be purchased at the door, are $10, or $8 for students.

Frei graduated from Lawrence High School in 2010 and is now a student at the University of North Texas, where he plays in the grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band. In May, Frei beat four other young musicians to take first place in the Jacksonville (Fla.) Jazz Piano Competition.
