Second driver identified in Leavenworth County collision

Law enforcement officials have identified the second driver involved in a head-on collision in southern Leavenworth Country Wednesday afternoon that killed an 86-year-old Basehor man.

Caitlyn A. Coon, 19, also of Basehor was driving a 2002 silver Dodge Caravan that was struck by a pickup truck driven by Thomas Dale Holland. Holland’s truck had crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 24-40. The truck overturned and ended up in a ditch, killing Holland.

Coon was transported to Kansas University Hospital with unknown injuries. An official at KU Hospital could neither confirm nor deny Coon was a patient Thursday morning.

Coon was wearing a seat belt; Holland was not, Kansas Highway Patrol reports said.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 25112 Chieftain Road, or U.S. Highway 24-40, about four miles south of Tonganoxie.
