Baker University’s annual Spring Choral Concert will feature jazz vocalist Kevin Mahogany performing with the East Hill Singers, a chorus of minimum-security inmates from Lansing Correctional Facility.

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. May 3 at Rice Auditorium, 404 Eighth St. in Baldwin City. Admission is free.

Numbers featuring Mahogany, a 1981 Baker graduate, and the East Hill Singers will include the premiere of works Mahogany and his arranger prepared. Also performing are the Baker choirs, the Community Choir and the Baldwin City Children’s Choir, which will sing a song in memory of the elementary school students killed in Newtown, Conn.

The same week, Mahogany will perform in the Symphonic Winds Concert on April 30 and the Chris Grubb Memorial Jazz Ensemble on May 2. After leaving Baker Mahogany formed and performed with two groups, “Mahogany” and “The Apollos,” gaining a large following in the Kansas City area. His debut album, “Double Rainbow,” came out in 1993.
