Woman injured in crash near Baldwin City

A 41-year-old Baldwin City woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Thursday night after an accident north of Baldwin City.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman, said Debra Guntert lost control of her vehicle while traveling south on County Road 1055. At 7:25 p.m. she moved to the right of the road and onto some gravel trying to avoid an oversized truck driven by James A. Sauer, 52, of Topeka, that was northbound. Lewis said it appeared the truck had proper markings and lights.

As Guntert lost control of her vehicle it went off the west side of the road and struck an embankment east of the road. Officers listed her evasive action and over-correction as contributing factors to the crash. Guntert was in fair condition Friday afternoon at LMH, said Belinda Rehmer, a hospital spokeswoman.
