Douglas County Sheriff’s officers arrested a 26-year-old Lawrence man Wednesday morning in east Lawrence after he ran while being served with a warrant.
Sgt. Steve Lewis, a sheriff’s spokesman, said the suspect, Darin Robert Curtiss, ran away in the 1800 block of Maple Drive while a deputy attempted to serve him with a warrant related to charges in a March 1 obstruction and habitual violator case.
When the man ran, the deputy could not leave a child at the house unattended, so he asked for assistance. Another officer eventually arrested Curtiss about 11:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of Harper Street. He was booked on a new obstruction charge and given notice to appear in court March 21, according to jail records. Curtiss posted $2,500 bond in the old case and $750 in the new one.
