Two Lawrence middle-schoolers spelled their way to v-i-c-t-o-r-y in the Topeka Capital-Journal Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday.

Emma Steimle, an eighth-grader at West Middle School, won first place in the competition of nearly 50 students from 24 Kansas counties. She’ll represent the Capital-Journal in the national Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May, according to a media release from the paper.

Milo Schoenen, a sixth-grader at Southwest Middle School, won third place.

Congratulations, Emma Steimle. But everyone who participated or worked on this should be congratulated. Spelling is very important for future employment and for expressing your own ideas!
