Even transportation is getting marked down Thursday for the annual Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale.
The Lawrence Transit System is waiving bus fares on all fixed routes for the sale — Routes 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10 and 11 all travel downtown. The T has regular service from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Besides a free ride, taking the bus means you don’t have to face traffic congestion or worry about parking, transit administrator Robert Nugent said in a prepared announcement.
“The Sidewalk Sale is a great time to try the T,” he said. “On a day that brings so many people downtown, riding the bus can be a real convenience.”

The sale runs from sunup to sundown, with some downtown shops planning to open as early as 5 a.m.
To prepare a shopping plan, check out facebook.com/DowntownLawrence, where Downtown Lawrence Inc. has been posting sale updates and preceding deals from various stores. A Facebook page set up just for the sale, facebook.com/swsale, also has information.
Throughout the day Thursday, Journal-World staffers will be Tweeting and blogging from the sale. Tune in at ljworld.com.
