Topeka man charged with vehicle burglary, theft, trespassing

Douglas County prosecutors Monday charged a 29-year-old Topeka man with vehicle burglary, theft and criminal trespassing in connection with an incident early Sunday in the 1100 block of West 27th Street.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman, said police were called there just before 5 a.m. about an auto burglary in progress, and an officer observed a suspect running in the area. After setting up a perimeter, police located the suspect, Nicholas Monroe Thompson, and arrested him. A witness identified him as the auto burglary suspect. Officers found property from several other potential burglaries, but they were unable to locate any other victims as of Monday, McKinley said.
