Woman involved in accident Jan. 3 on U.S. Highway 56 near Worden dies

A 47-year-old Overbrook woman who was injured in a head-on crash Jan. 3 on U.S. Highway 56 has since died, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The highway patrol has changed its online crash log to reflect Jamie J. Ullery died Jan. 18 at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., but troopers have not yet released any additional details about the accident. The crash occurred about nine miles west of Baldwin City, near Worden.

Ullery was a passenger in a westbound 2006 Grand Dodge Caravan that crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Darren S. Othick, 45, of Baldwin City. Othick’s two children in the pickup truck, Caleb Othick, 12, and Kara Othick, 10, are recovering and have since been released from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., he said.

Joann J. O’Brien, 76, also of Overbrook, was the driver of the minivan Ullery was riding in. O’Brien has since been released from Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., a hospital spokeswoman said Monday. Another minivan passenger, Alice Jean Beatty, 51, of Independence, Mo., was injured that day and taken to KU Hospital, but she was no longer listed as a patient there Monday, a spokeswoman said.

Darren Othick said he had received outpatient treatment after the accident at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
